Ever Changing | Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

In Blog, California, Death Valley National Park by JamesB5 Comments

Death Valley National Park fits very nicely in my top 3 favorite national parks and is quite possibly in the lead for the number one spot. This may come as a shock to some people reading this, especially those who haven’t been before. The reason, you might ask? Because it’s always different. Every time I go, it’s always different.I will never go to the Mesquite Sand Dunes and be able to get the same shot I did last time. The dunes will have changed quite dramatically. Same with Badwater Basin. Same with Cotton Ball Basin. Same with the Racetrack. It’s really an incredible thing. I can go back to a place like Arches National Park year after year and photograph the North Window. It will always look the same, save for a blanket of snow in the winter. That’s not a bad thing, but that’s what keeps me so intrigued with Death Valley.

I don’t have a date set for my next trip out there, but perhaps that needs to change. Who wants to go!?

In terms of processing, this was done in Lightroom and Photoshop (my usual workflow). Basics were done in LR and then PS was used to really bring out the colors and details with some curves, levels and luminosity masking in a few key areas. Happy Monday everyone!

  • In! I love Death Valley for the same reasons and also because in January and February, hardly many tourists visit the park 🙂

  • Yep, winter is by far the best time to visit. I was there for a day last September when it was 120˚ and don't ever want to experience that again. Nope!

  • wow

  • Amazing

  • Fantastic perspective, and such a beautiful image.
