ON1 Has Some Incredible Features Coming Soon

I’ve been working with ON1 Software quite a bit over the past year. In fact, I became a certified “ON1 Guru” this past spring, after using their products for the better part of a decade. This essentially means I’ve signed on with them as an ambassador and will be working closely with them to improve their products and help educate photographers on what ON1 can do. I’ve never been one to go after sponsorships, and that’s not what this is at all, it’s a partnership.

This is exciting for me because I love post processing and I now get to work directly with the great folks at ON1 to make what they’re doing even better. They are a small company made up of photographers like you and me, and I’m really impressed by what they’re doing.

Most companies (think Apple, Adobe, etc) are extremely secretive about upcoming features and while there are always a few “leaks,” we don’t get to see if those leaks are real until the new product launch. ON1 is approaching things completely differently: They recently announced the RAW Project Exposed which is straight up telling us, video by video, what to expect in the next version of ON1 Photo RAW.

Below are the latest video releases in case you’d like to take a look. The updates I’m most looking forward to are new Pano feature and the improved masking controls, but that’s just a small part of what’s coming. I got to sit down with ON1 late last week for a demo of all the new features and while I can’t give anything away, I can say that there are some incredible updates and changes coming that I’m very excited about, especially in the pano and masking areas.

To see more, head over to the RAW Project Exposed page.

  1. I’ve spent a lot of time learning lightroom and photoshop, do I really need this?

    1. Hey Samantha,

That’s a decision you have to make for yourself but I’ve always enjoyed using software from companies like ON1, Nik, Topaz, etc, in addition to my LR/PS workflow. In my opinion, you won’t find a better option on the market for complex masking, creating effects/looks, and preparing prints just to name a few.

And considering I used to spend upwards of $300-$800 for plugins back in the day, it seems like a no brainer (if you can afford it) to spend $99 on ON1 Photo RAW whether you use it to replace LR/PS or simply as a supplement.

  2. Interesting. I haven’t used anything from onOne in years but thinking of giving them another go lately. I’m retired and not very interested in using multiple programs. Can this replace Lightroom since it has become so slow?

    1. Yes, absolutely! Unless you’re a power user and utilize advanced techniques like creating very specific luminosity masks in Photoshop, you will be well taken care of with ON1 Photo RAW. It gives you the functionality of Lightroom, plus all the major (and some minor) features of Photoshop all in one program. And they just announced ON1 Photo RAW 2018 today.
